Through the eighties, (Chart Chart) the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers along with the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins were considered the dominant teams. That decade was the first of two "lost decades" for the Montreal franchise. Though they won (an unexpected) Stanley Cup in 1986, Montreal was considered a team in their twilight.
