The Diachronic Barber Pole Observations of a Recovering Hockey Exile

Guys We Wouldn’t Remember

November 11, 2009, by Homme De Sept-Iles

Your obsession with hockey, is it an obsession with hockey?  Or is it something else?

Of course, it’s something else.  The kind of detail that only a mother or a historian could want or care for … a lifer’s interest.  It isn’t hockey.  It might be some of the aesthetics of the game.  But those are not central.

The obsession isn’t unkind.  But it’s not a warm, rational, community-oriented or god-serving concept, either.

What is the purpose?  Why purpose to endeavour in such a way?
